Can you explain indulgences?

Hi,

I am currently researching Indulgences but the more that I research the more confused I get. It is something like talking to a Politician. “They tell you everything without telling you anything at all”.

I am seeking information in Laymen’s terms please.

1. What will an Indulgence do for me?
2. What will an Indulgence do for others due to my actions?
3. Please clarify Temporal punishment.
4. Any other pertinent info: appreciated.
