Can you help me explain the Holy Euchrist?

My daughter believes that communion should only be done in memory of Christ. Why Do we as Catholics believe it actually turns into The Body and Blood literally. How can I defend this belief. I tried using John 6:53 (unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood you have no life in you) but was told he was speaking in the Spirit and the flesh counts for nothing as confirmed a few verses later. Please Help

That doesn’t explain Jn 6:60: “Many of his disciples, when they heard it, said, ‘This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?’ or Jn 6:66 “After this many of his disciples drew back and no longer went about with him.” Jews were not allowed to drink any kind of blood. This is what was so hard for them to accept. If he had only been speaking symbolically, he could easily have called them back to explain this. This he did not do.

1Cor 11:29 “Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord.”
No one has to worry about worthily receiving a mere symbol.
