Can you help with a quick question?

Last Sunday, I came home from an 8 day summer camp 3 hours away from home. I arrived at 5:30 to my sisters birthday party being hosted at our house. My parish offered a mass at 7:30 and i wanted to attend but couldn’t make it because of the party. Did i sin or does my situation fall into the exception for mass obligation. If it is a sin, was it mortal?

Hi,

Why couldn’t you make it because of the party? Did you not have transportation? Did you not want people to see you leaving or were you having just too much fun?

Attending a birthday party doesn’t sound to me like an adequate reason to miss Mass. I think that maybe you need to go to Confession.
