The book is nearly impossible to understand. Any clarification would be helpful.

Why not put it down and read the Gospels instead.
There are many books out there written from a perspective in the centuries before ours.

The Gospels, also written a long time ago , and then Acts, are also written a long time ago, but a better read with a lot more help in a textual understanding.

There is also a tv series you might really like called AD 1 that covers Acts. It goes into things like Paul and his life before and after meeting Jesus on the road to Damascus

You may need a commentary, but it really is a simple approach to contemplation. In a nutshell it leads you to try to clear your mind of everything possible and focus a loving glance at God. You get better at it the more you try it. Distractions are inevitable, as the book explains, but when they enter your mind just try gently to refocus on God’s love. You might try Thomas Merton’s What is Contemplation? as well.

It’s probable you’re not ready to read The Cloud of Unknowing

The first time I tried to read St Teresa of Avila’s “Way of Perfection,” it made no sense to me and I had to stop

About 15 years later after been involved with contemplative prayer and joining an OCDS group, it all made sense and I couldn’t get enough.
