Can we vote for anyone but the Conservatives? All the other major parties are officially pro-choice. I don’t like their neo-liberal economics, though.

IMO Liberal, NDP, and Green are out of the question. They are unwavering in their stance on abortion. The People’s Party holds promise, since they are willing to deliberate any issue, and are open to debate and discussion. Christian Heritage is also very pro-life, but I’m not sure about the odds of them getting in. That said, there may still be hope for the Conservatives, as decisions based on past court deliberations can still be put into effect without reopening the abortion debate.

I’m curious if abortion will come up in the leaders’ debate tomorrow, and what the Conservatives and People’s Party (Scheer and Bernier) will say about it. If it doesn’t come up, that speaks volumes as well.

I’ll vote Christian Heritage if I really have to, but that’s a protest vote.

I’m considering voting Conservative, even though I think the leader is a moral coward when it comes to the pro life issue. Still, of the major parties , it is the only one that will allow its members to vote with their conscience in parliament. I don’t get other parties “whipping” the vote in parliament because it just seems really undemocratic. Maybe I’m missing something?

Well, I think Scheer has a strategy. He can’t outright say he’s going to do something pro-life about Canada’s current stand on abortion, otherwise the Liberals would jump on that and use it as a scare tactic to gain the votes that would have been otherwise divided among NDP and Green. Call me crazy, I think Scheer actually has a plan, and a smart one at that. He can do certain things to the disadvantage of abortion providers without reopening the debate.

So Trudeau challenged Scheer on abortion directly in the last half hour of the debate [
at 1:35:41 ]. At least Scheer didn’t completely back down and stated clearly that he is pro-life, although he also promises that the law won’t change. Bernier didn’t have much to say, but the topic was given far too little time.
