Does your church have particular popular customs associated with Candlemass - I am not referring to the official liturgy. I am thinking for example of whether people bring candles themselves to be blessed or other customs, maybe at home.

Solvitur ambulado - It is solved by walking

People bring candles to be blessed.

(If you also got the little Christ child in your 3 King´s Cake, then you’re expected to have tamales for Candlemass!).

Father usually has a small gathering in the back of the church before Mass and blesses our candles. The attendance has been rather low in the past few years; I hope we do it this year.

It is always a really popular service at our parish where the weekend mass attendance tops 1000 (it is usually around 800)

Some people bring their own candles but we always have a complete stock of the liturgical candles which are blessed as part of the ceremony at the start of the service. Everyone who comes to the church is also given a candle that is lit and blessed.

We then process into church singing with gusto the great Candelmas hymn “Hail to the Lord who comes”

At high mass the choir will sing “When to the Temple Mary went” by Eccard, youtube.com/watch?v=qC-RUCfsjFc

and a setting of the Nunc Dimitis at the end of the service.
