Canonical Witness

Hi,
Could you please tell me what a Canonical Witness is? A friend of mine is having her baby baptized and said she is using 2 God parents and a canonical witness.

A “Canonical Witness” is a Baptized person who is not Catholic, and therefore cannot be a Godparent/Sponsor. They generally can be the other person when only one Catholic Godparent/sponsor is available, but in my poinion should be of the opposite gender as the Catholioc Godparent. With two Catholic Godparents (one Male and one Female) there is no real need to a non-Catholic Christian witness. ???
