This was posted on 1/22. At that time, some things were fixed, but, it still had a ways to go. Paint was coming off of walls and ceilings and needed to be cleaned in other places. There is special place in my heart for that beautiful, old church. I also recall that attempts were underway to restore the church building. How is that progressing?
I can’t say I’m a fan of the NO/OF, but, isn’t it done so wonderfully and non-heretically abusive there? The priests/deacons/altar boys still celebrate the OF Vernacular Mass with their body’s facing God and communion is still taken while kneeling at the rail.Great thread! I am currently exploring the possibility of becoming a registered parishioner at St. John Cantius. Along these lines I am in the process of discerning the whole Latin Mass / Novus Ordo distinctions, along with V II and the rest. I have a related question about this in a thread I am about to start. Oh, and St. John Cantius is an awesome parish! Maybe the surest sign of true renewal I have seen.
God Bless

This is a great parish but be forewarned. Better come with a bunch of quarters as at last Sunday’s sermon they did announce now all those metered parking spaces around the Church must be fed even on Sundays. Otherwise they will slap you with a $100 parking ticket while you’re worshipping God.
The Latin OF is always PACKED! There’s so many people coming out of the 11:00 Mass as we were trying to part through them to get to the 1230 EF.What is the Latin Ordinary mass like at St John;s. I here that they use the most amazing music for this mass? How well is this attended compared to the two TLM’s every Sunday?
AND NOBODY HAS MENTIONED THE CONFESSIONALS!!!

None of them were face to face or in a wall (not that I really have a problem with either of those. I really don’t.). They are just big enough for the priest to sit and the penetant to hide his or her face. There are priests there before Mass and during most IF NOT ALL the Mass. There is typically one priest who is there throughout the entire mass listening to confessions. …And the people here took confession seriously!!! There would be lines of people, sometimes merging into each other waiting and praying to go to confession. Nobody was turned away. Confession didn’t stop because Mass started. …And all the priests there were so good. They were orthodox and knew how to help a penetant. They are the best priests.
