This summer I’m going to be unable to go to Mass for about six weeks. Please don’t say that I can check out mass times b/c I can’t go (I would if I could) and I don’t want to go into detail on a public forum.

I know I need to get a dispensation but I don’t have a pastor, I’ve moved around alout the past few years and never moved my records (I wouldn’t even know where they are). I go to college and there’s a half dozen priests on campus who know me.

At my perminant residence I’m not sure I can trust the pastor to keep my dispensation confidential as he’s friends with people I need to avoid.

Can I just go to a campus priest?

You should go discuss this with one of the Campus Priests who know you.

why on earth would a dispensation from attending Sunday Mass be an issue of confidentiality? it is normally something you just ask the priest nearest you, the one you see most often, or in confession, does not have to be your pastor. Who else cares if you get a dispensation for this necessity? It is nobody’s business.

I know some very petty and vindictive priests. I also know many kind ones, unfortunatly the kind ones don’t live near me. (my home address)

At school the priests take turns saying mass so I may see the the same guy only once every one or two months. One works in the offices on campus so I know him a bit better than the others. I only go to confession twice a year at retreat functions b/c thats the only priest I trust on spiritual matters, but I can’t see him in time.

Go to the one on campus you know the best. Explain EVERYTHING, and see what he says.

Agree with other posters. Go to the priest that know you best. They will most likely keep the dispensation confidential - they have no reason to talk about it with anyone. Your reasons should be clearly stated especially if they involve the caring for a sick individual(s) or you yourself will be under medical care. Good luck.

Whatever you say in confession must absolutely be kept secret by the priest. If he tells he will be defrocked. Maybe talk things through with any priest in confession, tell him the full story and see what he says.
