Perhaps the world has been looking at ways to conserve our environment wrongly. Once getting past common efforts by individuals to conserve the environment, everyone always says, “Policy!” Maybe there is a free market solution to this issue that can stimulate the world economy, maintain freedom from governments prying into buisness and individuals, and help maintain the beauties of creation. Any ideas?

I’m normally a defender of the free-market system, but when I look at the millions and millions lost in the Solyndra debacle / scandal (very under reported), the hundreds of millions private industry has reaped selling wind turbines of questionable long-term value, and the zillions of dollars Al Gore has personally made as the High Priest of “Global Warming,” I frankly despair of what capitalism has “achieved” so far in the environmental area. And then there’s the “carbon credit” scam, but don’t get me started.

Perhaps policy comes in to make sure that the changes are meaningful. Subsidies only given out when a meaningful idea is present, not just a cash machine for the powerful. We also must make sure that policy doesn’t infringe on rights.

If the environment is a “public good,” then trying to turn it into a business cannot work, ISTM.
