EDIT: Great News! The dealership is closed so my decision was made for me! Like someone suggested, I planned to call dealership to put the car on hold…but now that might not be necessary…thanks!

I don’t typically do unnecessary shopping on Sundays except for perhaps quick food items or restaurant dining…I wouldn’t dream of car shopping on Sunday but I finally found a car to lease that really works for my health issues and I’m scared that if I wait until Monday I could lose the car in my selected color since it’s a very busy car shopping week and inventories seem to be dwindling…ugghh…Should I say a prayer and wait for Monday or move forward this one time? I normally wouldn’t feel so guilty in one-off situations like this but a car is a large and somewhat arduous Sunday purchase for the employees…thx

Given the very limited inventory I think it would be okay as long as you don’t take away from the sacredness of the day. You can dedicate a prayer for the employees at the dealership.

Peace.

Your choice to not shop on Sunday is your personal choice. As long as we attend Mass and do some other activities to keep Sunday holy, such as spend family time, or maybe pray for others or do a good deed for others if we don’t have a family, then the Church does not prohibit us from shopping on Sunday. Indeed, some families might even go shopping together for a fun family outing and that would be “having family time” as long as they also attended Mass.

So basically you’re asking us if it’s okay if you break a personal rule you made for yourself. I’d say, it’s up to you to decide; you made the rule, the Church didn’t tell you “No Sunday Shopping”, so you can choose whether to make an exception to your own rule.

Very well put.

Maybe it would be good to offer it up? It could be good to say a prayer and what until Monday

Would it be an option to call the dealership, explain that you don’t wish to do business on a Sunday, but you would like the car, have them to put it back for you, and then transact the actual business tomorrow? Or just do the bare minimum to lock in the deal, whatever that might be?

In many parts of the country — such as the Bible Belt — this would be entirely understood.
