“To seek a solution to the problem of infection by promoting the use of prophylactics would be to embark on a way not only insufficiently reliable from the technical point of view, but also and above all, unacceptable from the moral aspect. Such a proposal for ‘safe’ or at least ‘safer’ sex – as they say – ignores the real cause of the problem, namely, the permissiveness which, in the area of sex as in that related to other abuses, corrodes the moral fiber of the people.”

In the case here under discussion, it hardly seems pertinent to appeal to the classical principle of tolerance of the lesser evil on the part of those who exercise responsibility for the temporal good of society. In fact, even when the issue has to do with educational programs promoted by the civil government, one would not be dealing simply with a form of passive toleration but rather with a kind of behavior which would result in at least the facilitation of evil.

How many pro-condom proponents never even consider the “real cause of the problem”; but instead continue to appeal to treating symptom behaviors to the degradation and peril of the dignity and soul of the person. So good to be Catholic.

Honestly I cannot tell you how many intelligent people, even some Catholics say that condoms should be promoted as the best way to prevent the spread of AIDS. As the Pope stated, it not only ignores the actual behavior that caused the epidemic but actually encourages it on the ridiculous assumption that condom use is both effective and will actually take place. Thank heavens the Pope knows that only the truth is going to work.

From the National Catholic Register ncregister.com/Register_News/Tusnet-NIH.htm

“A recent study by the National Institutes of Health reported that condoms provide no guarantee against becoming infected by the most serious sexually transmitted diseases. In the wake of the study, a group of more than 2,000 doctors is demanding the resignation of the head of the Centers for Disease Control, charging that he has failed to inform the public about the inadequacies of condoms.”

Of course the CDC won’t tell people that condoms are inadequate to control disease – then we’d have to say that the only safe sex is between faithful partners in marriage.

We can’t have that!! That sounds like something that reactionary Catholic Church would say!http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon11.gif

Promiscuous sex started this whole bloody mess. I hate how people say the church is evil for not supporting the use of condoms in situations like this. I would imagine that any married couples where one of the partners has aids already has resulted in both partners having aids. If everyone in the country would from this point on only follow the churches teaching, the epidemic would simply go away by itself over time instead of getting worse.

I guess another major problem is children born with aids. What should be done about persons born such as this? Should they never marry? I imagine condom use in a couple where one partner has aids would only be delaying the inevitable and the only way the other partner could avoid contracting the disease would be through the use of abstinence.

Children born with AIDS do not live to marry.

In Cuba, believe it or not, the AIDS policy is quarentine. People with AIDS are kept separate from the general population. Partners and family members can choose to go into quarentine, but once quarentined can’t come out again.

Supposedly, this method works.

People just have to realize that sex cannot be used as mere recreation without severe consequences, be they emotional or physical or both.

Sexuality is such a powerful force that it can quickly get out of hand without a good spiritual grounding.

While doing a short search on AIDS and quarantine, I ran across this story on a new, virulent and drug-resistant strain of AIDS.

*The virus was found in a New York City man in his mid-40s who engaged in unprotected anal sex with other men on multiple occasions while he was using crystal methamphetamine. The drug’s erasure of inhibitions and stimulating effect have long been blamed by health officials for sex marathons that have increased the spread of HIV. *

The man, who was not identified by officials in order to protect his privacy, is believed to have had unprotected sex with hundreds of partners.

Tell me again how promoting condom use is going to stop AIDS.

I agree wholeheartedly with the pope. I just had a “wake-up” experience with a Save the Children fund I’ve been giving to for 4 years. I received in the mail a proud newsletter discussing how great it was that the young girls and boys were getting new information on contraceptives so they could make “better choices” about sex. It was lauded because it would “slow the epidemic of AIDS and reduce unwanted pregnancies” in this rural area. There was even a picture of a young girl “mentor” showing a diagram of all the different types of contraceptives to a group of teens. I was appalled. I had no idea that my money was going to promote this type of education… I thought it was for helping this little girl get a good education and to live a better life… And interestingly enough, not a WORD about abstinence or chastity. When I called to IMMEDIATELY cancel my assistance, they person asked me why, and I told her about how wrong it was to promote contraceptives without abstinence, and that I thought I would be more happy giving my money to a more christian/Catholic fund. She kept asking if it was all right to help end STDs and such, and I said, “Of course! But it’s not right to only teach about contraceptives, and not abstinence!” She didn’t get it, but I hope that the message got sent. I learned a lesson in investigating my tithing too… sigh.

God bless,
-Amy
