. “A Church that is not pointed toward God is a Church collapsing, already in the throes of death. The spire of the cathedral of Paris has fallen: and this is no coincidence! Notre-Dame of Paris symbolizes the whole West, buckling and crumbling after turning away from God. It symbolizes the great temptation of Western Christians: no longer turned toward God, turning inward upon themselves, they are perishing.” Cardinal Sarah
Powerful quote from the link you gave us.

I was going to quote something and post it here but every sentence was powerful. Like the title of the thread says please read this and read it again and get the book and read it.

I have ordered the book and today asked at the C.book store if it came in yet. Not yet.😞

“The West is blinded by its lust for wealth! The lure of money that liberalism instills in hearts lulls the peoples to sleep! Meanwhile the silent tragedy of abortion and euthanasia continues. Meanwhile, pornography and gender ideology mutilate and destroy children and adolescents. We have become so used to barbarity, it no longer even surprises us!”

Cardinal Sarah brings to mind for me the warnings of Our Lady at Fatima, which have largely been ignored, and now the warnings of Our Lady at Akita.

"Evacuate the city, engage all spiritual defenses, and make this man a Pope!"

Thank you to the OP for posting this. The secular ideas of men often exclude or ignore God and religion. Each one of us must renew our minds and commit ourselves. The way forward has been clearly stated. Life not death. God not the words of those who hate God and/or religion. And a place to live and be with others who express a wisdom and live a life that conforms to the Gospel.

The Church has been moving towards ‘end times’ evangelisation throughout it’s history and we are now in those times when the coming again of Christ is of more intense focus. (Eschatology) The CCC describes it here:

The Church’s ultimate trial

675 Before Christ’s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers.574 The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth575 will unveil the “mystery of iniquity” in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh.576

676 (The Antichrist’s deception already begins to take shape in the world every time the claim is made to realize within history that messianic hope which can only be realized beyond history through the eschatological judgment. The Church has rejected even modified forms of this falsification of the kingdom to come under the name of millenarianism,577 especially the “intrinsically perverse” political form of a secular messianism.)578

677 The Church will enter the glory of the kingdom only through this final Passover, when she will follow her Lord in his death and Resurrection.579 The kingdom will be fulfilled, then, not by a historic triumph of the Church through a progressive ascendancy, but only by God’s victory over the final unleashing of evil, which will cause his Bride to come down from heaven.580 God’s triumph over the revolt of evil will take the form of the Last Judgment after the final cosmic upheaval of this passing world.581

Even over my 57 years of practicising the faith I’m being drawn to ways that will let me recognise things of Antichrist and to recognise Christ when He comes again.

OP thank you for sharing this. I just picked up my copy of Cardinal Sarah’s book The Power of Silence. I’ve had it for a while but hadn’t got around to reading it.

Thank you for posting this. It encourages me to read the books of Cardinal Sarah.

Jaw dropping good-- the Cardinal will make enemies with this speech but that’s a GOOD thing; an excellent way of telling who “are the good fish and who are the bad fish”.

I like Cardinal Sarah very much and wouldn’t at all mind to see him become the next Pope.

Incidentally, if anyone’s wondering, I think his name is pronounced “si-RAH”, like the wine, not like the common female name (as in Abraham’s wife).

Thanks for the link to this. I have 2 of Cardinal Sarah’s books that I have not read yet, but will be jumping on ASAP. I love Cardinal Sarah and his African peers.

“As a bishop,” said Cardinal Robert Sarah at a May 25th conference in Paris, “it is my duty to warn the West: behold the flames of barbarism threaten you!”

This is a brilliant speech delivered by Cardinal Sarah in Paris. It introduces many of the themes of his newest book published by Ignatius.

Cardinal Sarah: “We must rebuild the cathedral … We do not need to invent a new Church” – Catholic World Report
A powerful speech. Thank you for sharing.

Dear friends, the cathedral of Notre-Dame had a spire that was like a finger stretching out toward heaven, pointing us toward God.
Ouch.
This somehow makes me think of the Jesuit English Martyrs under Q. E I, who suffered so terribly and were tortured to death bringing the Mass and the faith to the tiny Catholic community that yet remained and lived in England. Their Catechism for children had this wonderful testament, Catholic kids growing up in a world that both pretended they didn’t exist and would kill them if they dared to betray the lie:

Question: Why am I here?

Answer: To know, love and serve God who made me, that I might be reasonably happy in this life and perfectly happy forever with him in the next.
