Just an observation from previous threads.

I often read comments about how fullfillment in ones career is an illusion of modernism. In fact I’ve seen it come up numerous times on CAF and find the concept baffling and contrary to anything I have had instilled in me before. It seems to be implied especially toward women.

If one is not fulfilled in your career shouldn’t you try to amend this and find ways to be so? (Obvs this includes SAHP). Does this somewhat glib acceptance of not enjoying your career counterproductive to a fulfilling/content life.

Thoughts?

One issue is that there is a deep distrust between employers and employees.
People still think that all you have to do to keep your job is to be competent, but you can actually be canned for anything from gross incompetence all the way down to “not fitting in” (ie not being on the popular clique).
And with people becoming weaker and weaker in social skills, this will be an increasing problem in decades to come.

This is true, I think, and rather unfortunate. Fortunately, I work remotely as a college professor. I try to be as neutral as possible on controversial topics faculty might be having and try to get along with everyone when I correspond with them online. I’m not sure I would fare so well in a face-to-face environment…

There is a “follow your passion” and “do what you love” mantra in the world.

Very few people end up doing jobs that they LOVE. Most of us do what we have to do to pay the bills, have insurance, etc.

We should not seek fulfillment in any career, in any person or human achievement because we will always be disappointed. fulfillment comes from God alone!
