I’ve been reading through a lot of older Catholic devotionals, missals, texts, etc. and notice that instead of “love” for say the three theological virtues, the word “charity” is used (the other two being faith and hope). Does anyone happen to know why the Church stopped using the word “charity” and has opted for “love” instead? Or is “love” a more accurate translation?

Some translations stopped using the word “charity” because many were using the word to refer to charitable organizations rather than to refer to the theological virtue.
