Caritas in Veritate and John 8:22

Yesterday on Catholic Answers I heard a question regarding Caritas in Veritate and the first Scripture reference in regards to the following passage –
It is a force that has its origin in God, Eternal Love and Absolute Truth. Each person finds his good by adherence to God’s plan for him, in order to realize it fully: in this plan, he finds his truth, and through adherence to this truth he becomes free (cf. Jn 8:22).

John 8:22 states the following –
22 So the Jews said, “He is not going to kill himself, is he, because he said, ‘Where I am going you cannot come’?”

The caller asked how this reference applies to the statement in the encyclical. I think that, if you read the Scripture verse in context and then read the commentary as stated below …
[21-30] He whose ambassador I am is with me. Jesus’ origin is from God; he can reveal God. 10 [21] You will die in your sin: i.e., of disbelief; cf John 8:24. Where I am going you cannot come: except through faith in Jesus’ passion-resurrection.

11 [22] The Jews suspect that he is referring to his death. Johannine irony is apparent here; Jesus’ death will not be self-inflicted but destined by God.

… it makes perfect sense. A person cannot find the good in himself except through the passion-resurection of Christ and then that person will know the Father who is the source of all good. All that we are is destined by God, it is our choice to search within ourselves for that good and use it.

I think the mistake is that some read the verse and then stop there and do not read further. At least that is my opinion. Any other thoughts?
 
Gosh, it doesn’t make perfect sense to me. It seems it would relate more to the
John ch 14 vs 4 and make more sense: “You know the way that leads where I go”.

What was the answer to how it related to John 8:22?

Actually, they didn’t have on. They thought it might be a type-O but, the more I read, the more I could see it. Maybe I’m hallucinating.

Needless to say, the people Christ was talking to did not believe in Him so they were not living in Faith so they could not follow him as they were

I am going with a typo in the Scriptural reference and that it should actually be to John 8:32.
