Hello! I’m formally discerning with the Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus in Milwaukee, WI. I have yet to hear whether my application is approved or not. 😃 Patience is a virtue…

I love the Mother Foundress very much, like a spiritual mother. I believe that she is a saint in heaven, and I can’t wait for her to be canonized! For anyone who would like to read more about this humble Foundress, here’s a web address:

CarmeliteGirl,
Did the sisters receive your application in the mail? Did you include a return receipt? or something? Maybe my memory is all upside down?

I am not discerning a vocation to Carmel, but I do love the discalced Carmelites whose monastery is about 10 minutes from my house.

Yep! They received my application on March 16th!!! 😃

I love my Carmelite Sisters, DCJ!
Please say a prayer for me, if you don’t mind! I’m entering the Central Province this fall! :nun2:

Thanks! God bless you! :signofcross:

Thank you so very much!! God bless you too! 🙂 I am so looking forward to entrance. I am nervous too, though, just at the prospect of leaving home. :frighten: Overall, however, there is so much JOY! :extrahappy:
I trust that God will provide, He is so incredibly good!! Thanks for all the prayers.

I have been a Lay Carmelite for many years now and feel very attracted to Carmelite spirituality. I had alsways presumed that I would seek a cloistered Carmelite community when I could seriously look at Religious life (I had to wait until my son was grown). Since then I have been involved in active ministry and I question my call to cloistered life. I have looked at a few Carmelite communites including Carmelites of the Divine Heart of Jesus, and Carmelites of the Aged and Infirmed. I desire a community with a strong contemplative charism with some active external ministry but less than those communities seem to engage in. I’m thinking more along the lines of periodic external ministry rather than a day to day active ministry. I also have a charismatic aspect to my life with the Lord and I can’t imagine not having that be part of my ministry and prayer life. If anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful. I find the see of communities hard to weed through.

Blessings on your discernment journey Kathgirl and Carmelitegirl25. Carmel has so much to offer!

Too bad the poll is closed - would’ve picked Discalced Carmelites.

I have an odd question… Why is it that almost every Carmelite website (and it seems to be almost specifically the Carmelites, and I’ve noticed, ones that actually wear full habits) that I look at, somewhere in the website, there’s always a picture of a nun pushing/riding a lawn mower?

To make sure you get that there are lots of chores to be done, lol Be sure to take note of which have riding mowers and which ones push;)

 Don’t get in her way! I wonder what John of the Cross would say???
In St. John of the Cross’s day, the good sisters would have been out there with their skirts kilted up around their knees bent over using a sickle. Less modest, and harder work, but I suspect safer than having a flowing habit that can get caught up in the machinery of the lawn mower.
