Cases Worth Praying to Saint Jude?

I can imagine a saint wouldn’t have a problem praying for anything on our behalf,
though I personally wonder what cases are seriously worth taking to Saint Jude
Thaddeus.

St. Jude is the patron saint of “desperate cases” “lost causes” “cases despaired of” etc.
Another bit I found was this here:
“When all other avenues are closed, he is the one to call upon, and his help often comes at the last moment.”
I’ve turned to St. Jude many times when I needed help, usually in my mind for cases that felt lost, hopeless, that
made me desperate, and so forth, though I sometimes wonder if my cases are really worth his particular patronage.

What examples would be more worth coming to Saint Jude for, or does anyone
suppose that I shouldn’t really bother wondering on the magnitude of the case?

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Pray about everything. That includes praying to St Jude for his intercession for anything that is importance to you.

With all due respect, I find it a bit dangerous to be calculating when approaching the patronage of saints (i.e. does this matter fall to St. X or St. Y? Or would it be more efficacious to pray for the intercession of St. Z?); I simply say so because it’s a bit like worshipping a pantheon. An intercession is fulfilled by merit of the saint, so you can pray to St. Jude to help you find your keys and St. Anthony for your ailing friend ;).

Just three evenings ago I had a bad fall. (I am disabled) I could not get back up and spent the night sitting on the stoop, until my housemate got home from the midnight shift.

At first I screamed my head off…HELP HELP! But none of my neighbors could even bother to call 911 let alone actually help me.

So I gave up on any humans and started praying, including St Jude. But nothing helped and honestly my faith was severely tried. I could not sleep and spent 8 hours shifting my weight and moving my feet.

I am still hoarse and my feet still hurt me.

Saints are under no obligation to intercede on our behalf, and if they do it is the Lord who acts, and it is up to Him to decide on what course of action to take.

Life is full of suffering, we cannot expect that we ourselves ought to be free from suffering simply because we pray to be so. Hard as it may feel, sometimes our suffering may have a purpose, unknown to us. Sometimes we are tested.

As for St Jude, I can only say that praying for his intercession has helped me immensely with a particular situation I had experienced in my life.

We need to remember however that God does not ‘owe us’ for praying to him, or for asking the saints to intercede on our behalf.

I never heard this stated, nor have I heard the opinion that the saints were under obligation to intercede on our behalf.

Since there is no selfishness (or anything imperfect) in Heaven, my educated guess would lead me to believe that if a saint is asked, that they would intercede for you. This does not mean that you’ll get what you’re asking for, as you point out, this is up to God, as always.

I echo the sentiments of those who say it doesn’t matter the seriousness of the circumstances. Pray to whom ever you like and don’t feel the need to “choose only one.” I pray to many at a time. They are all grateful to receive your prayers and happy to hand them over to our Lord. Isn’t it wonderful being a part of the communion of saints? 👍

Think of Saints as your good friends. You can go to a friend with anything, large or small. As you develop in your spiritual life you will notice that you rely on some Saints more than others. If St. Jude is one of those, he wants to help you in whatever you need. He will not think that you are running to him for inconsequential things. He will help out. If you have many Saintly friends you may have certain friends you go to for this or for that. Then when the Holy Spirit prompts go to whichever friend you need. Some people reserve St. Jude or St. Rita as their “big guns” and only seek help in dire situations. I am sure that is okay for they have other Saints for other reasons. Since the Saints behold the Beatific Vision, I am sure they don’t get jealous or tired as some of our earthly friends do. I hope this makes sense to you.
