our diocese has adopted a church of england cat., the cat of the good sheppard. we have complained asked questioned and we have been told that is what is being taught.

It was started by a convert who does not believe all catholic doctrine, thinks purgatory is not real as one example, her husband is catholic and I think she really wanted to convert but then wants to change the church to fit her believes. She has some power and prestige.

Has other disc. started to use this? Is anyone familiar with the fact it is episcopal? It was easier for the priests to let this go on because a lot of women were recruited to teach it and it took a lot of work away from our overworked priest.

My wife and I have real problems with this, are we alone?

I think the program is Catholic, through and through…though certainly, just like any program, the orthadoxy of the person teaching will influence what the children learn…

The first link says it is not a cirriculum but an approach, which is consistent with what I know, goes on to say it is based upon Maie Montisorri 's principles. The problem is having your child taught montesorri methods in school is one thing having religous classes taught based upon her principles is quite another. Montessorri left the church and actually was , I believe an aetheist in her later years, I dont have time to look this up so someone correct me if she just left the church for another religion, I know she left the catholic church at some point in her life and her teachings reflect that.

The program has been adopted by catholic parrishes and maybe even by authority but like a lot of things people need to look closely at what it is because i am sure the origins are not catholic and I can tell you from our parrish and my children going through the program it is not doctrinely sound.

Maria Montesorri was Catholic her whole life from what I know–a sinner, like the rest of us, but a Catholic, none the less.

There is nothing in the method that is against the Church. I can’t imagine that the Catechisis of the Good Shepherd is any different. If you are having trouble with the program at your Church, get involved and make a change for the better.

As I recall, but don’t have a reference at hand, any material used in the Catholic Church to teach religion must have an Imprimatur.
