Anyone watching Catch-22 on Hulu?
I’m not sure it should even be discussed on a Catholic site, given the amount of immoral activity.*

But I wanted to see if anyone is watching, because no one I know in real life is watching, and I’d like to talk about it.

[*foul language, and the first episode has an explicit sex scene that wouldn’t have been shown not so long ago. After that particular scene, however, at least up to episode 5 sex talk is part of the story but not shown.
There’s also gratuitous gore, from my perspective. ]

I wouldn’t mind seeing the movie again, but when they make a new series out of a decades-old novel / movie, there are usually steps downhill.

Not planning to watch the show, but man is that a great book. I laughed my butt off when I read it.

I’ve seen the trailer. It is bad. Nothing to do with an old movie or book.

That’s true–I was hoping for the movie, and that’s not what it is. The characters are basically the same, but . . .

My daughter and I have been watching. She likes it. I watch with her because she likes me to, and it gives me a chance to explain some of the history around the setting.

I think the acting is good–most of it. George Clooney’s Scheisskopf is pretty bad.

If you loved the book and are meh on the movie…skip the series.

I’ll give it one episode. Got nothing to watch since It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is taking forever to get its last season on Hulu.

The attention to detail I saw in the trailer was amazing. I don’t know who advised them or how much money was spent to get the smallest details right. All of the aircraft are accurate. It appears that at least one was real.

Dang, I had just added that to my watchlist. Sounds like a no-go for me now.

I’ll pass. It’s getting so difficult to find decent new shows anymore.

Well…it’s not awful. It’s not bad, really. But it’s not the movie and it’s not the book. If you can set those aside, it’s watchable.

Yes.
Along with a couple German planes that I assume are authentic.

Read the book many years ago, and have watched the series. Yes there are a few sex scenes, swearing, nudity and violence. It is in the context of the whole thing being both a satire and a critique of the brutality and insanity of warfare. Personally I didn’t find it to.be overdone.or overly salacious about it, from memory the book was worse if anything.

Finished watching the series this evening. Actually—it got better as it got darker and more intense. I think the actor playing Yossarian, Christopher Abbott, does a great job.
