Does anyone know of how to go about getting a Catechical dipoloma?

Yes, many different schools offer the program. If you are an online kind of person, you can take classes through cdu.edu (Catholic Distance University.)

Check your diocese too. Ours is a certificate program rather than a diploma but it is pretty thorough.

your diocese has a process for certification of catechists, try the website or ask your DRE. A number of Catholic colleges have regular degree programs, or certification through summer conferences and other programs, which are accepted nationwide, or at least in many dioceses, but get approval from your own diocese before sinking your own time and money into it.

your diocesan website is not very helpful, there is something called they Wyoming School of Catholic Thought but it does not have any info on catechist or Catholic school religion teacher certification, my advice is to ask your DRE or Pastor what they require.

Temujon,

Do you have any experience with CDU? I’m looking at it for a Bachelor’s completion program. A friend of mine was concerned about whether it would really be a degree that would be widely recognized.

CDU has been around forever.

I did a course with CDU many, many years ago. It was good, challenging and affordable. I wanted to get their MA Degree but the tuition is now off the charts, at least for me. Being retired and on fixed income, I simply cannot afford any of their courses now, not even the Catechetical Diploma. My VA benefits ran out before I could use them and I cannot find any type of financial assistance as a VET of over thirty years nor as a Senior citizen. It is very discouraging.

First of all, you must understand what a “Catechetical Diploma” is: It is Vatican-authorized teaching certification, not merely diocesan, so, if this is what you want, be sure the institute you choose specifically states that their program is authorized by the Congregation for the Clergy.

While the Franciscan University of Steubenville is turning out some of the best and most solidly trained catechists in the Church today, I’ve always been mystified as to why they don’t offer the Vatican-authorized Catechetical Diploma (or, if they do, they certainly don’t advertise it). The founding director of their Catechetics department has one, as does at least one of the department’s other instructors. (I know; I earned mine at the same catechetical institute they did!)

Can you give a link to what this diploma actually is (as listed in a Vatican site if possible) I have searched and can only find link to two schools that say they offer it. I have never heard of it and I am involved in catechesis on the diocesan level and in formation of catechists.

I just discovered that Franciscan University at Steubenville has a distance learning program (the courses come to your home) and it is about half the cost of CDU. They have Masters programs too. I have linked their site here for you. God bless you.

It says on there to get an MA in Theology, you have to be on campus for atleast 2 of the classes… That kinda stinks for me since I live in GEORGIA!! lol. I’m going to be a teacher… but really want to get my MA in Theology. Hopefully I will find a school closer to me that offers one, or maybe they can change the rules for me! haha. just kidding. But how AMAZING would it be to have Scott Hahn as your prof?? AMAZING. to say the least 🙂

I’m sorry this response is late; I’ve only returned to this topic today, and found your question.

My own Google search turns up this web page as the most detailed explanation of the Catechetical Diploma I can find: scsrsd.org/Home/academic-programs/undergraduate-program/catholic-religious-studies-certificate.

You should probably contact the Congregation for the Clergy–or a member of it–directly for the fullest explanation. Since you are in diocesan catechetical leadership, you can probably ask your bishop how best to do that more easily than most people.

God bless!

I have diploma in internet marketing from one college, but as I understand it is only basics and no one will hire me with that diploma for catholic study. That’s why I am looking for the diploma to get good knowledge about it.

Some time it becomes a need to buy a fake degree. My cousin was doing a job in a private company and after joining he lost his degree. The university did not recover his degree. So what to do for him. I want to ask that is a fake degree wrong for him?
