Hello, I am new at teaching Catechism classes, and would appreciate ideas about how to give kids a good understanding of Lent.
My kids are from 3rd grade to 7th grade (big spread because of the different languages in the parish).

Do you take them to the church and do the Stations of the Cross once before Good Friday, or what do you do?
I saw booklets written for children by Fr Lovasik. Does anybody use these, and what do you think? Are they worth ordering for the children?

Thank you in advance.

yes his books are good but for pre-school or primary age, if your learners have English as a second language, they may be helpful, and there are comparable books on many of those topics in Spanish

some resources with bulk pricing
Our Sunday Visitor pamphlets and CAtholic Parent Know-how on Lent, Advent, many other topics
Pflaum gospel weeklies, also seasonal publications. they have a Lent book and Advent book with reproducible resources which can result in a big savings
Channing-Bete, they have “lent calendars” like an advent calendar, printed with activies daily, also the kind on cardboard with windows that open up, also coloring-book style activity books and other resources

creative communications – good but sometimes pricey, but do have bulk pricing

also check out the website of your textbook publisher, you catechist manual should have a code or you DRE a membership password, for Lenten resources

I teach 7&8 grade. Our parish has Stations of the Cross every Friday during Lent. I send home information with the kids and encourage families to attend. I also pick a Friday and highly recommend that kids come so that we can participate in the Stations as a class. For many of them, it’s the first time they’ve ever been to Stations, so I feel it’s very important to do this as a class.
