Too complicated for me to have conclusive opinion at this time.

I cannot relate in any way to rape victims, so I have no idea how devastating that can be. It is truly an act of violence, and I’m not sure how worrying about the “pureness” of the sex act even applies.

Yes, “emergency contraception” sounds like a code word for a possibly abortive action. Yes, I realize that among women who have been raped, some have had such “treatment” and some kept the baby – and each group seems to have members who regret their actions and members who are thankful they did what they did.

Let’s just say that if a rape victim received “emergency contraception” then I would not stand in line to throw stones at her.

One question that arises in my mind, though, is what difference does it make whether the pill works as abortifacient or just prevents fertilization, if in fact both are intrinsically evil?

In a case of rape, doing something to prevent ovulation/fertilization after the fact is ok (see the USCCB site). That being said, if fertilization has occured, then doing aborting the baby is not ok, no matter the circumstances.
