I can’t seem to vote. But YES I have read something from the Catechism of the Catholic Church. I just had to quote from it in response to a Catholic poster who denied Catholic teaching.

I keep three copies - one by my bed, one by my computer and one in my backpack. I like to think that, like the Bible, I can, at least, turn to the ‘right’ passage in a heartbeat!

Just wondering - because the Catechism contains all of the truths of the Catholic Church… where do you see the “parts that are wrong”?

I’ve never read it from cover to cover, like I have the Bible. However being a former Protestant, I bought a copy so I could refer to it when I needed to know exactly what the church’s policy was on a particular issue when needed.

I find its handy in that respect.

I find its handy in that respect.

It makes great reading! It’s no ‘substitute’ for the Bible but is a great ‘companion’ - I start my catechist classes in September and I know that I’ll be even more familiar with the CCC when I complete the courses!

I have been consulting it frequently recently for an article I am writing, and I have been gaining very great respect for it. It is a rich source of information about Catholicism. If you have a question about the Catholic faith it is worth looking at. It even is available online (just google to Catholicism of the Catholic Church) though I prefer my printed copy because of the index in the back.

I’ve been through it three times. Once was via Fr. (as he was at the time) Corapi’s CD series. This past Lent I had both the CCC and the Compendium on my Kindle, so I would go through a section on the latter, and then go through the related paragraphs in the Catechism, using Kindle’s “read-out-loud” function. I think I’m going to make that a regular Lenten exercise.

I also went through the Catechism with former priest Fr. Corapi. It was an excellent series on EWTN and I wish I had bought the dvd set when it was available.

As a Protestant, I read through a few key parts of the Catechism. Now as a Catholic, I am working my way through the entire volume.
