just wondering, whats the deal with catholics and protestants hating on eachother? im not apart of either so im pretty ignorant on the topic and i would like to be enlighted…what are the major significant differences between the two religions…also what book do catholics read and what do protestants read…i think protestants read the king james version of the bible but im not too sure.

In general, Catholics and Protestants do not hate each other. There are those though, who are zealous in their faith, would malign the other side. These are what one might call as fanatics. Now, as well, Protestants do not just use the KJV, though there are quite a number of them who do. There are those who use the NIV as well, for instance. Catholics generally use the NAB, Douay-Rheims, Jerusalem Bible, to name a few. Some Catholics use the KJV as well.

Most Catholics do not hate Protestants. The groups that do through overzealous acts damage the unity so badly needed, and sadly, I believe prevent alot of Protestants from coming home to Rome. The differences vary depending on the denomination as compard to the Catholic Church. One other small note on the Bible. After the Protestant Reformation, books were removed from the Canon of Scripture so that they are still found in the Catholic and Orthodox Bibles but not Protestant Bibles. Thanks and God Bless.

**I would like to add to what you said. Most of the arguments that I have seen and been involved with are usually protestants not knowing truly how we practice our faith, and their claim is that it is unbiblical. Well, it is not so much that it is unbiblical, but a difference in translation of scripture. **

**Most of what you will see is a doctrine of Sola Scriptura (BIBLE ONLY) which most protestants embrace and Catholics embrace Scriptures and Traditions in equal esteem. Keep in mind these traditions were brought down from Jesus to the apostles. **

we just play on different teams trying to reach the same goal but utilizing a different play book… the good news is we are still playing together… we stumble and fall, we butt heads, but all-in-all, we really want the other side to come over to our side…

it gets heated at times, but each side feels the other is worth the effort and that’s the important point… IMHO

In my opinion those who denigrate and hate other baptized fellow christians do so because they haven,t learned one of jesus,s most important teachings HUMILITY!the i ,m right and have the full truth and if you don,t believe what i believe your not saved and not a christian attitude is heartbreaking.I,m married to a catholic, attend mass and participate in her parishes activities,i consider myself a traditional anglo-catholic but i read catholic books, lutheran, presbyterian, etc.we have so much more in common(the creeds, baptism, etc)than most people know, yes there are differences, but so much more unites us than divides us,we should unite against the real enemy(secular society, abortion, uncivil decadent behavior, etc,)instead of attacking one another.united in christ, celt

I think that the majority of Catholics and Protestants are friendly with each other. I have known many wonderful Protestants that I admire greatly. What annoys Catholics though, is when a Protestant insists that, in order to get to heaven, the Catholic must leave his faith and follow theirs.

Do you mean like if a Lutheran said “there is no salvation outside the Lutheran Church”?

As said, Caths and Prots generally don’t hate each other. Most of the hate comes from those who believe their particular dogma is the only way, and anyone who does not believe it is a heathen and an infidel, and fat.

Please, please, don’t think *all *protestants are evangelicals!
