Can someone recommend a good apologetics book that might lean more towards answering questions from an atheist’s point of view?

I really like Frank Sheed’s A Map of Life. He really doesn’t take the apologetics road but he really lays out the facts in way that is really easy to understand.
 
A resource which is not a book, and not necessarily about Catholic Apologetics, but is by a Catholic is a tape series by Ken Hensley “Atheism is for Dummies”
As for apologetic books for this group of individuals, I am not sure of any, they would have to believe in God before they believed that he established a church.

Also Peter Kreeft has a free mp3 download of “Arguments for God’s Existence”
 
Although an Anglican, I’d also recommend C. S. Lewis’ “Mere Christianity” and “God in the Dock.” He was an avowed atheist as a young man.

And the master apologist of the 20th century, G. K. Chesterton. His Orthodoxy and The Everlasting Man are classics of apologetics for atheists and Protestants alike.

"The best way of answering questions may not be a book. The remedy which must be applied to atheism is to be sought in a proper presentation of the Church’s teachings as well as the intregal life of the Church and her members. For it is the function of the Church, led by the Holy Spirit who renews and purifies her ceaselessly, to make God the Father and His Incarnate Son present and in a sense visible.

This result is achieved chiefly by the witness of a living and mature faith, namely, one trained to see difficulties clearly and master them. Very many martyrs have given luminous witness to this faith and continue to do so. This faith needs to prove its fruitfulness by penetrating the believer’s entire life, including its worldly dimensions, and by activating him toward justice and love, especially regarding the needy. What does the most to reveal God’s presence, however, is the brotherly charity of the faithful who are united in spirit as they work together for the faith of the gospel and who prove themselves a sign of unity."
 
I would recommend getting the Beginner’s Apologetics series. One of the books in the series is devoted toward Atheism / Agnosticism. I can’t remember which volume number it is, but it is written by Fr. Frank Chacon and Jim Burnham from San Juan Catholic Seminars.
 
I’d recommend a great little booklet, an easy read, titled “The Dilemmas of Atheism.” But it’s hard to find … probably out of print.

The main thrust of the author is to put atheism on the defensive … to show that atheism is not logically consistent with it own premises.

You can go to Lulu and download this little booklet which gives you a nice intro and refutation of many common atheist positions.
It is super cheap and a quick download that you can print out for yourself.

In addition to Dr. Kreeft’s Web site above, his book Handbook of Christian Apologetics is an excellent overview and will touch on most everything that might come up in a conversation with an atheist. I’ll second the recommendation on Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis.
