This week, reflecting on the life of our Holy Father John Paul II, I read his apostolic letter to artists and it inspired me to do something…something big. I mean-- it may become big–not sure. I’m already overwhelmed by the thought of what might become of it…

I’ve created a Web site - an apostlate, really - for Catholic creative thinkers–writers, musicians, artists, artisans- anyone who has creative talents to share. The web site is catacombers.com.

As our Holy Father John Paul II wrote in his /Letter to Artists/ in 1999: “. . . artists, the more conscious they are of their ‘gift,’ are led all the more to see themselves and the whole of creation with eyes able to contemplate and give thanks, and to raise to God a hymn of praise. This is the only way for them to come to a full understanding of themselves, their vocation and their mission.” My hope is to help everyone realize their mission through Christ - using our work to speak of our faith and not be ashamed of it.

I invite you all to participate in building this Web community into something really great - by sharing your work and participating in discussion forums. (Please note that the site still has some tinkering going on - so have some patience!) This is a place where we can share our faith and our experiences and encourage eachother in living the faith through our art. You can read my mission statement on the main page to get all the details…

So please join us, and like our ancient ancestors–draw on the walls!

Dear friend

Excellent site! I am in the Uk and it is late here so tomorrow when I have more time I’ll register onto your site…it’s fantastic!

I studied Art for 4 years and will keep looking into your site often.

I wish you God’s Blessing on your site and on all of your work

God Bless you and much love and peace to you

Teresa

In light of one distraught catholic artist…I thought I’d bump this.

pardon my bump.
