Hi,

I am not sure if this is a good forum for this. If not please feel free to get a moderator to move it. 🙂

I am putting on a Christmas show for my friends and their parents. There are about seven or eight of us, all classically trained ballet dancers around twelve to fifteen and this show will just be for our parents. We will not be putting on the Nutcracker per say, but we will be dancing to the Maripan, Arabian, and Sugarplum from the ballet, in addition to Mother Ginger Dance. As we are all Catholic and real ‘Jesus is the reason’ types’ I want to make the Mother Ginger dance have a religious significance. I feel like putting Mary into the dance would be too disrespectful (besides, who could possible dance in a way to honor the perfection of Mary?!)

I have thought of angels, but angels have become so secularised by our society they don’t really hold much meaning any more as a religious symbol.

Any other suggestions? I really want to draw the focus of this show to Christ. Thanks. 🙂

The thing I enjoy about the Mother Ginger Dance is it promotes childreen and mothers with large families.

There are many saints that can be included into the ballet.

Yes, I agree—after I posted I was thinking of a ‘Dance of the Saints’, mainly including St. Nicholas and St. Lucy/Lucia. Hmmm…since it will probably not quite be Christmas, I could have a pink tutu and three purple ones and have an advent candle dance.

Advent, Advent, the little candle burns
First one, then two, then three, and four … Finally the Christ Child knocking on the door.

We could probably create a whole ballet on the advent candels and their meanings.

There is an actual ballet of Handel’s Messiah.

The story of the Nutcracker has many similarities to the Gospel story! Look for them. 🙂
