Hi everyone,

While it’s just about time for the end of the school year and everyone is winding down for the summer, I have some education news to share.

Pauline Books & Media will soon be offering book fairs to Catholic schools! The format will be similar to the Scholastic fairs that you’re all familiar with, but the book/video/music offerings will all be solid, educational, and fun Catholic material that PBM is known for. The book fairs will be called JClub: A Catholic Place for Kids and will have both a print magazine and web component filled with stories, games, activities, prayers, catechetical videos, and other media that will keep kids interested. There will also be content for parents and teachers on the website and in a column in the print magazine called “Media Mindfulness” (an educational column about media literacy).

JClub book fairs came about from the request of principals, teachers and parents for a Catholic children’s book fair and web site that would provide good and wholesome activities, resources and books for Catholic students, teachers and parents. Another benefit of JClub is the media awareness component addressing Christian living in a media culture. The J is for Jesus placing a focus on Jesus and our Catholic faith – it is also a fish hook that reminds us that we are caught by Jesus and sent to be fishers of men and women for the gospel in his Church.

There’s more information to come and I’ll post as these things are finalized and when the website is launched.

For now, it will just be grades K-8, as we don’t have many books to offer high schoolers, currently. This is something that we will have to consider in the future! Thanks

Story of my life… finally a Catholic book fair… and my kids are in High school… Well, I must say… I am glad for everybody else!!!

If you want suggestions for books for older kids…

Chronicles of Narnia
Any CS Lewis book… The great divorce, Screwtape letters etc
Utopia
Catechism of the Catholic Church
The new Catholic novels for teens… ohhh forget the titles… Catholic High???
 
Bad timing, eh? Sorry! 😉

For now, it will be just Pauline titles (we’re not quite ready to take on distribution at these things yet!), but we have many new books coming out that will be perfect for the book fair crowds.

I believe the Narnia movie will be sold there, though.

I ask all you reading this post to please pray for Bosco Books (Boscobooksonline.com).

Almost one year ago, three of us were similarly frustrated catholic parents who were tried of seeing Scholastic book fairs in our Catholic schools. Esp. when they were promoting Harry Potter and more recently the Golden Compass.

We began to dream about a Catholic company similar to Scholastic and contacted all the well-known Catholic book publishers to see if they could support us in our dream ~ all of them said no however they all thought we had an amazing idea.

There are a few publishers beginning Scholastic-type businesses this fall and we wish them all the best. They are filling a great need within Catholic schools and they are set to meet a high demand.

Bosco Books will be offering fliers only and we will be highlighting a variety of publishers. We will also be giving back a percent of sales back to each school/parish to help financially support their continued evangelization and catechesis. Our school/parish fliers will have Catholic resources for children, teens and parents. We are a small grassroots company made up of three Catholic families who desire to give personal attention to every school and parish.

We love the story of St. John Bosco and his dog and ask for his intercession on our inspired partnership! Please keep us in your prayer corner as we begin our leap of faith.
 
Sally…I am currently trying to get our school to move away from the Scholastic “machine.”

So glad to hear Pauline is doing this…

The problem I am running into is this:
  1. Money - Which I can take care of by offsetting the difference any fair besides Scholastic would bring in;
  2. Selection of books. This is used as a key reason by our principal and librarian on why they don’t want to switch.
Would love your help on any info you have.

Will the Pauline fairs be in market this fall???
