I am organizing a new library for our church. We have only a limited amount of money to buy new books, so we are relying on book donations from the congregation. It’s impossible for me to read all the books, so I was hoping to find web sites that could help me determine which may be acceptable and which may not according to Catholic teachings. I’ve received many books by Dr. Laura Schlessinger, works of fiction such as the Joshua series, other books like the Purpose Driven Life…well, more than I could list here. So I’m hoping you all might know of some web sites that would help me determine the appropriateness of these books. Thank you for your help.

Just me,

The Joshua series is not carried in some Catholic bookstores. I just read the first in the series some time ago, and noticed there is a subtle criticism of some of the Church’s teachings towards the end of the book. Otherwise, the story was good.

As for the Purpose Driven Life, I suppose it is harmless.
However, the author, Rick Warren, is being critiqued at going the way of “new age”. I don’t know too much about the reason why they are saying this, but I am sure there are websites that discuss that.
