Hi,

I would like to get some idea’s for some good reading. I have been Catholic all my life (skipped out a few years and came back) but I never really took the time to find out what it was all about. I learned the prayers some of the Catachism and that’s about it. It was all faith from that point on.

I would like to find out more about my religion as well as read some entertaining books that focus on the Catholic way.

Any recommendations?

Mickey

The Faith, by Fr. John Hardon (Ignatius press)
Time Management for Catholics by Dave Durand (Sofia Press) also has a great bibliography besides being essential reading
Spiritual Passages by Fr. Benedict Groeschel, guide to the spiritual journey

😃 Oooh, one of my fave topics! Well, if you want entertainment and learning about the Church, start with “How Firm a Foundation” a novel by Marcus Grodi. Excellent!

Other books I’ve enjoyed:

“Mother Angelica’s Answers, Not Promises” (by Mother Angelica, of course!)

These are apologetics books, but deal with what Catholics do and believe and why and are written in a very entertaining and easy-to-understand format:

“Nuts and Bolts” by Tim Staples
“Prove It! Church” by Amy Welborn

Enjoy!

I would recommend anything by Fulton Sheen or G. K. Chesterton, especially Chesterton’s Orthodoxy and The Everlasting Man, The Catholic Church and Conversion, his books about St. Thomas Aquinas (the best biography according to Thomists) and St. Francis of Assisi. Both books get to the heart of these great Saints. Ignatius Press offers Chesterton’s books. Or you can find them online–the whole texts at: G. K. Chesterton’s Works on the Web.

“The Seven Storey Mountain” by Thomas Merton
“The Confessions” of St. Augustine

Very interesting to read these back to back.

Graham Greene “The Power and the Glory”

Archbishop Sheen “The Life of Christ”

Evelyn Waugh “Brideshead Revisited”

I have found Fr. Thomas Dubay’s books to be wonderful including 1.) Prayer Primer and 2.) Deep Conversion, Deep Prayer. Also I love the Diary of St. Faustina. All Excellent!!😃

Patrick Madrid’s “Surprised by Truth” series… stories of converts and reverts. Very interesting and informative!
