Catholic Books on Salvation History

I am currently enrolled in the Catechetical Diploma program of Catholic Distance University. Eventually I would like to write a term paper on Salvation History. I was planning on reading “A Father Who Keeps His Promises” by Dr. Scott Hahn and “Many Religions - One Covenant” by Pope Benedict XVI. I would like to read a couple of other books by Catholic authors. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions anyone may have. Thank you.
 
I personally haven’t read it, but a teacher recommended Walking With God by Tim Gray and Jeff Cavins. I got it for my dad as a gift, and he said it was excellent.
 
Jeff Cavins’ Bible study on salvation history is the best. The Bible Timeline: the Story of Salvation.
 
When Benedict XVI, then still Cardinal Ratzinger, was the prefect of the CDF and the head of the Pontifical Biblical Commission under Pope John Paul II, he was the main author of The Jewish People and Their Sacred Scriptures in the Christian Bible. Maybe you’re already familiar with it, but if not, you may care to take a quick look at it (link below). As you would expect, Ratzinger has the gift of conveying his ideas with great clarity and precision. You’re never left in any doubt as to his exact meaning, which is more than you can say for many theologians.

The House of the Lord by Steven C. Smith. Talks a lot about how Temple theology and covenant theology mesh together, throughout the OT and NT. Also has a ton of great bibliography stuff.

Brant Pitre’s Christ the Bridegroom and his other “Christ the” books are also full of covenant stuff. Christ the Bridegroom may be more what you’re looking for, actually.

John Bergsma’s “Bible Basics” book also gives a nice overview of salvation history.

If you want Hahn’s more in depth, academic approach look at salvation history, you can check out “Kinship by Covenant.” It’s the book form of his doctoral dissertation. 🙂
 
Walking with God, by Tim Gray and Jeff Cavins. It is an interesting overview of the Bible.

I have this book by Scott Hahn you mentioned. It is mind opening, however i think (personal oinion) it has a few problems regarding the economy of salvation. For instance, he mixes convenants made during evil times with covenants made during good times.
 
Introduction to Christianity by Ratzinger.

350 pages on the creed. 150 of them on “I believe in God, the Father Almighty.”

This book is a must read for the work you will be doing.
