I want to learn more about the Holy Trinity. What Catholic books do you recommend? 🙂

Well, right off the top of my head, Augustine’s On the Trinity comes to mind, although it can be quite dense. Then again, it IS the Trinity, not exactly a simple subject. 😃 I will take a look at my bookshelf tomorrow and see if anything else comes to mind!

What kind of background do you have and what are you looking for? In other words, are you looking for something very theological, something more introductory, etc…?

I might also recommend “Theology for Beginners” by Frank Sheed. There is a good section on the Trinity, and the book is not a difficult read. The title might sound a little basic, but it’s meant to be easily informative rather than being so in-depth that understanding becomes difficult.

If you want something more challenging and original, try Karl Rahner’s* The Trinity*:

Yes, Rahner was suspended from teaching at Catholic universities because he did not believe in papal infallibility, but in many other ways, he’s quite traditional. Benedict XVI respects him so much, he had him to dinner at the Vatican to “talk about theological subjects.”

He’s greatly respected despite his view on papal infallibility. This book is very deep and engaging reading. Nothing light here, no glossing over anything, yet it’s not a long book.

I agree. This is a good introduction to the essentials of Catholic theology, including the Trinity.
