I trying to discern my vocation and I was just wondering how to vow of obedience works. I really like where I am and while I want to give my life to God I can’t imagine having to moving away from my friends and family. As a Catholic Brother would I have any say in where I serve?

As I understand it, and I welcome correction from anyone with more knowledge in this matter, your choice would be which order, and possibly which specific community within that order, you wish to enter. Also keep in mind that the discernment is not just you determining where you want to join and serve, but the order and community determining if you are a good fit for them as well.

After that, if you become a professed Brother of an order, where you go and what you do is up to your religious superior(s). If the order discerns that your talents and abilities are best utilized 2000 miles away then prepare to relocate. You probably won’t have a lot to pack depending on the order.

The one exception to this might be a Benedictine monastery, in which members take a vow of stability–which means to a particular monastic community or house. Once that vow is made, no one, not even the Abbot or Abbess, can demand that a member relocate.
