Do I have to be buried in a Catholic cemetery? If so, why? If not, why should I prefer it?

Because it’s Consecrated ground.

Also, Masses are usually said there on All Souls Day and other special Catholic Holidays. These help the souls that are in Purgatory enormously.

People also go there to pray. Sometimes I will go and pray for the souls there and sprinkle Holy Water on the graves.
I live near a Catholic Cemetary and pass it so many times a day. Each time I pass, I cross myself and pray, “Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace.” All this helps them get to Heaven quick.

Blessings,
Keyenta

Okay, I admit my ignorance–I know it’s consecrated ground, but what’s the advantage of being buried in consecrated ground versus unconsecrated ground?

You don’t have to be buried in a Catholic cemetary. You normatively have to be buried, body or ashes, in consecrated ground (unless you’re a Kennedy:rolleyes: ). I suppose that makes at least that part of the cemetary Catholic, though. The priest can consecrate your grave for you.
