Catholic church teaching on medically needed birth control pills?

What is our Church teaching on birth control pills when prescribed by the doctor for medial reasons other than contraception? ex. heavy, painful periods

Pills that are used for the purpose of alleviating/treating a medical condition that also have a birth control effect (that is not willed) are acceptable.
