I’ve been wondering this for a little while. What is the church’s stance regarding the environment and its issues (climate change, deforestation, pollution, recycling, etc.)?

My prediction is that it holds that humanity must take care of all of God’s creation, but I still haven’t heard any official verdict on ecology, especially considering that some environmental issues revolve around preserving animals and that it’s permitted by the church to hunt and use their bodies for food or commodities like leather.

See the Compendium of social teaching chapter 10:
  1. A correct understanding of the environment prevents the utilitarian reduction of nature to a mere object to be manipulated and exploited. At the same time, it must not absolutize nature and place it above the dignity of the human person himself.
  2. The Magisterium underscores human responsibility for the preservation of a sound and healthy environment for all.
