I am currently applying to graduate schools to study theology, and was wondering if anyone on these forums had any suggestions for Catholic schools. My top two choices are Franciscan University in Steubenville and CUA in DC. I’m leaning toward Franciscan, but that’s really just initial.

A good deal might depend upon what, specifically, you want to explore in these further studies.

I just found out that if a person get accepted into the Master of Theological Studies program at Notre Dame (not the Summer Master of Arts in Theology program), then tuition is free. Good incentive to look into Notre Dame. But acceptance is very competitive. But so is acceptance at CUA.

What do you want from the study of theology?

Do you want to make a true, positive difference in the world?

Do you want to help souls find Christ?

Do you want to learn, as the great Hans Urs von Balthasar put it, to “do theology on your knees” as the Fathers of the Church did?

If so, go to Franciscan. It is a little piece of Heaven on earth. (There are a very few other schools that are similar, but Franciscan is the one with which I am personally familiar.)

I think the Newman Society has a web site with ratings of Catholic Colleges and Universities.
