Does anyone know of any Catholic communities to live in? Not religious just regular people.

I believe Regnum Christi has live-in communities. Check their website for a group near you. Also, near monasteries there are often groups of lay faithful who develop community in a loose sense.

I think it’s our duty as Catholics to engage with the world, not enclose ourselves in ghettos. How can we evangelize if we don’t engage?

I agree with you. We should be the sheep in the midst of wolves, transforming the people around us and not only our words, but our lives, actions, should carry the message of the Gospel.

Nevertheless, I believe we could live (of course not all of us :D) in Catholic communities and still be in communion with the rest of the world. For example, the Taize community which hosts thousand from the youth yearly. Even Carthusian monks in the French Alps engage with the community and well, there is the liqueur :D. Many monesteries welcome prayer intentions and make some of their chapels open to the laity.

If you’re in Los Angeles, there’s one in West Hollywood at St. Victor’s parish called the ‘Bethany House.’ There’s another one in Van Nuys (Either St. Brigid of Sweden or St. Catherine of Siena) for women and another one around Downtown LA (I think?) that houses men, but I don’t have the information on me. I’m not sure about the availability of information online either.

Not every person is called to engage with the world; we can be examples of our faith and of God in other ways. I’m feeling led in one direction; it’s not a direction my husband would be comfortable doing. There are others who do other things. Some might be public, some might be private. How else would we explain those orders who are secluded, apart from the world at large?

Peace and happy new year!
