Catholic Concepts of Good and Evil

Hello all,
I am interested in how the various Catholic Schools view the relationship between good and evil. One example I found involves a discussion on Lord of the Rings. There it is claimed that Tolkien took an Augustinian view that evil can only exist by <> Given the chance, evil will collapse in on itself.

I am wondering if there are any different views on this relationship elsewhere in Catholic thought.

I think that’s the general consensus in Catholic thought.

Good exists necessarily, and is an aspect of God. Evil only exists as the result of rejecting God. Had Satan never rejected God, it is plausible that Good would have continued to exist eternally without any counterpoint. Evil only exists as the result of a decision to reject God.
