Hello again Canthiest, Scripture does tell us—remarkably clearly—that Jesus established a kingdom on earth, the Church, with a hierarchy and the authority to speak for him (Luke 20:29-32; Matt. 10:40; 28:18-20). If we did not have Scripture, we would still have the Church. But without the Church, there would be no New Testament Scripture. It was members of this kingdom, the Church, who wrote Scripture, preserved its many texts, and eventually canonized it. Scripture alone could not do any of this.

The bottom line is that the truth of the Catholic Church is rooted in history. Jesus Christ is a historical person who gave his authority to his Church to teach, govern, and sanctify in his place. His Church gave us the New Testament with the authority of Christ… Carlan,

Yes, Catholic teaching comes from Christ it was passed on to us through the Apostles and put together in the Book by the early Church. God is the Author of Sacred scripture, he inspired its human authors. The New Testament reflects the teachings of Christ. Again it come from what Jesus said and taught his Apostles and from the Apostles down through Christ’s Church to us.

My mother-in-law tells me that The King James Bible is more accurately translated then any other Bible, Esp. (she says) the Catholic Bible. She says The Catholic Church is for “Lazy People” who don’t want to think for themselves (regarding the meaning of scripture) and says that it’s a religion bent on brainwash.

Does anyone have anything to say to this? I’m very confused…

It may interest your mother-in-law to know that the KJV is a copy of the Douay-Rheims (D-R) Bible (minus seven books and portions of Daniel and Esther omitted), which is the English translation of the Latin Vulgate. The Latin Vulgate was used universally in the Church for 1500 years, itself meticulously translated from the original Hebrew and Greek by St. Jerome under the order of Pope Damasus from 382 to 396AD.

The Douay-Rheims New Testament was first published by the English College at Rheims in 1582 AD while the D-R Old Testament was first published by the English College at Douay in 1609 A.D. The first King James Version was not published until 1611.

Ask your mother-in-law to look up the following for you using her KJV:

Daniel 3:31-100

If she knows her KJV well, she’ll know that Daniel 3:31-100 isn’t there and will affirm that these verses don’t exist anyway. If you have a Douay-Rheims Bible, look-up Daniel 3:31-100 and show her that such verses exist and then ask her what the Protestant “reformers” had to hide by omitting verses 31-100 from the book of Daniel.

Are you talking the dietary law? If so, that was decided in the NT by Peter when he had a vision that all foods were clean, now. So, we are free to partake of pork, shrimp, lobster, etc. As far as other laws, I know that Peter and the Apostles decided in the NT that only the Jewish believers were required to be circumcized and not the Gentiles. So, we don’t have to follow ALL of the OT laws per Scripture itself! We do follow the 10 Commandments to the best of our abilities. In fact, when I go to confession (this is what all Catholics should be doing also), I go through an examination of conscience based on the 10 Commandments.

The 10 commandments are old testament why do you follow them but not the ones you do not like?

When you go to heaven you get a new body because this one is gone?
Douse god make people new bodies so they will be able to burn in hell? Are the bodies burn proof or douse he keep giving new bodies to those in hell?
