Thank you for your post Fred, and I agree. However, I think it needs to be three pronged approach. Scripture, tradition and Church authority through Apostlic succession. As a child, going to Catholic school, I had a catechism at school that we would study to prepare for our sacraments, and a children’s book of bible stories at home. That’s it. I never knew Church history, where it got its authority, what the “real presence” meant, what Jesus´ birth, death and resurrection meant. So fast forward to my teenage years, and I no longer read my little bible stories book, I was done with my confirmation, so no more catechism and I stopped going to church. After all, what right did the Church have to tell me what I had to do? So, I am trying to lay a good, multilayered, foundation, so my son will have firmer footing in the faith then I had. I hope I’m right in my approach, but I agree with your points, too.Bless.
