Hi, I’d like to ask what people have found out there in terms of good models for Catholic schools? It seems like many appear to be no more than replicas of public schools aside from a few religion classes and some religious art (some maybe not even that). In particular, I’d like feedback on a particular model that has been shared with me: a school called Living Nazareth that claims to run on a “seminary-model” (link at www . livingnazareth . org). I know that this school has not yet been founded and I’m not concerned about the logistical details at the moment, but the model itself, as it appears rather unique in my experience. Thanks and God bless you.

That is an interesting model, but not quite our situation. We came from a school where students spent far too much time away from home and we would prefer a model that didn’t repeat that situation. This appears to do well for those who need it, but we are not in that position and have different needs. I was also a little concerned that there is very little focus on the website on religious and moral formation and much greater focus on worldly measures of success (reminds me of too many other Catholic schools I’ve seen that have their priorities backwards) and that almost half of the students at these schools (40% according to the site) are non-Catholic (which I imagine creates a very secular atmosphere).

A good Catholic Grammer school in my opinion will have a good amount of Catholic iconography throughout the school, daily mass, not skipping religion class for other stuff, lots of prayer, involved priests in the school, and good catechesis of doctrine. Oh and number 1 is the teachers need to be religious! We need to drive down the cost of these schools, we need more religious!

I agree entirely! Do you think that the school I mentioned above (www.LivingNazareth. org) exemplifies that well? It looks like it upon my review.

From a quick look at their website I can’t see where these schools are actually located. If there’s one nearby you should check it out and see if it lives up to your expectations.
