I’m currently attending graduate school at a Catholic university (where I study Art), and would love to find an internship program geared toward making or teaching sacred art some place in the United States. It would be nice if I could find something available through a monastic community, but any faithful Catholic institution is good.

I’m really interested in following what John Paul II laid out in his letter for artists, and would love to find a way to fulfill my vocation as a Catholic artist.

Does anyone know if there are any internships geared toward the making of sacred art available for art students?

Thanks 🙂

I think you might consider going to Rome for a year, Sonic.

There are some good programs there, I know.

I’m going to assume that you are a gal… I do know that the Carmelites of Terre Haute write their own icons. Of course, they are cloistered, but who knows?

Thanks for the information. I’m actually a guy, though (and a proud member of the AOH, in fact). I’ll pass the link on to a girl I know might be interested in the same thing. 👍

Anyways, I’m considering the Sacred Art School in Florence, but I don’t know if they have internships or summer programs. I’ll have to write them.

You might also want to contact the corresponding Vatican Office and ask them for a listing.

I remember seeing some interesting program about some sacred art schools or coops of some kind on EWTN’s Vaticano or Rome Reports…if only my memory were better.

Ask Michelangelo for his intercession! 🙂

I’ll do that and try to pass on the information through art seminar class.

I’ll also ask Saint Luke for his intercession. He’s the patron saint of Artists (as well as Doctors). 🙂

St. Luke I’m sure will help.

Michelangelo, however, should be out of purgatory by now. Either way, I bet he’d be glad to help, too.

P.S. You may want to consider the Orthodox as well. There are a number of monasteries in the U.S. I saw one just now but the nuns write the icons. Just a thought.
