Many years ago, while still a fundamentalist, I read a lovely mystery by Ellis Peters featuring Brother Cadfael.

Does anyone have any recommendations for similar mysteries with a Catholic flavor/setting/character? No romances, please unless they involve the solving of a murder or other crime.

Cheers,

Father Brown, the detective master of Chesterton, is the premier Catholic detective, and Chesterton one of the founders of the modern mystery story.

There are several series out about nuns as detectives, most of them however just as dissenting in their opinions as real-life nuns.

If you like the historical, try Sr. Fidelma, the 6th c Irish nun, and the other one, drat it I will remember in a minute, a 15c English Benedictine nun who is related to the writer of Canterbury tales.
