When I die, I plan to have my body cremated & have my funeral urns stored in a catholic columbarium.
Is there any sin according to the Church for me to request NOT to have a catholic funeral mass for my deceased body prior to cremation? I intend to save the cost for my surviving family members & to make the funeral process as simple as it can be so it is not burdensome for my family.
I believe the status of one’s salvation is already determined by God at the moment of his/her death and NOT during a catholic funeral mass which can only reduce one’s time in purgatory.
Although I intend to skip the catholic funeral mass, I will request my surviving family members to offer mass as often as possible for my departed soul.
Thanks.
