Catholic Group, “Catholic Action League of Massachusetts” for at least, the 2nd year in a row wants the name “St. Patrick” removed from name of parade.

Last year’s story:
Catholic Group Wants “St. Patrick” Taken Out of Parade
With a second LGBT group being allowed to march in the South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, a Catholic group is urging parade organizers to remove the saint’s name.
The Catholic Action League said Saturday that it wants the South Boston Allied War Veterans Council to change the parade’s name after LGBT rights group Boston Pride was admitted.
OutVets, an LGBT veterans group, was told late last year that it would be allowed to march.
“In Catholic tradition, ‘the sin of impurity against nature’ is one of four sins ‘which cry out to heaven [sic] for vengeance,’” the Catholic Action League wrote in a statement. “As homosexual groups enter the parade, Catholic organizations, which is to say people who belong to the religion of Saint Patrick, have been pulling out.”

If they have had to do this more than once, I don’t know if it can work… at the same time, I agree, the Parade should be called something else.

And then, I look at other holidays named after Holy events; are they being kept Holy? Maybe enough so?

For discussion.

Edit On: I hope all links are okay, I have no idea if this Catholic Action League would be an officially type approved organization or be what I might suspect, a probably autonomous type of organization.

But the news link surely is valid and they are doing it this year again.

I wish they would let the organization, Courage, march but I read they denied them. How much sense does that make? Just shows us the parade has been taken over.

I agree that the name St. Patrick should be removed. Call it the Lesbian Gay Homo parade instead. Let the Christians have their own St. Patrick’s Day Parade without interference from those who promote homosexual activity.

I agree they should remove the name. use the month of March or spring in the name of the parade.

I believe they should be able to call it anything they want as long as the Catholic Church is not involved in it in any way shape or form . Most certainly they should no longer allow the reviewing stand to be on the steps of St. Patrick’s Cathedral

that is for sure. it would seem as though the Cathedral were sponsoring or putting on the parade!

Glad to see the courage and clarity in America! No-one here in Ireland would think of it, including me - but now you’ve given me an idea …

I’m afraid that it is time for the Catholic Church to remove St Patrick’s day from the Liturgical Calendar, the same way they removed St Valentine’s Day.

The seculars have killed this feast and are in complete control of it in North America and parts of Europe.

Very sad

Maybe you should take Christ out of Christmas as well. And I know a gay Mexican called Jesus. What’s that about?

What I have long found problematic is that there is so much drinking on St. Patrick’s day, look up the cities who offer free rides home per the bus lines on St. Patrick’s day.

That to me, is not showing a reverent attitude towards the Saint’s day. Maybe this is different.

I agree about Christmas, but the ones responsible for destroying this were the retailers and greedy merchants, eventually the people became ‘conditioned’ to view Christmas as a time to get presents and all the toys they want, as a result. Its funny to see the level these big retailers go to regarding a christian celebration, but when it comes to any other christian related topic, they are 100% hands off, no comment, etc! lol

St Patricks day around here is all about the local colleges and bars having 24 hour drinkathons and oh yea, they dye the beer a green color.

I always understood that the drinking and feasting came about because a dispensation from abstinence was given by some bishops in some areas (like Boston) for St. Patrick’s Day, which therefore associated the day with, well, drinking and feasting.

Or perhaps those who don’t celebrate Christmas in a Catholic fashion should be barred from using the word?
Finally, someone around here is making sense.

I never thought of St. Patrick’s Day as having any religious connotations at all. It was always a day for Irish people to celebrate being Irish, and for people of all nationalities to wear green. 🤷

It is a silly request, and very unrealistic. My first thought also was it makes as much sense as banning the word “Christmas”. But beyond that, we could also look at banning the much more defamed name of St. Francis (San Francisco).

Either call it the St. Patrick’s Day Parade or call it the Nothing in Particular Parade. If others insist on removing St. Patrick from one parade then hold another that does proper homage to St. Patrick.
