How many girls/women here practice some form of head covering, either to mass, while praying, or both?

Overall, how many girls/women at your church practice head covering? How many might you see at an average mass at your church?

There are a few at my church who do this. Mostly older women.

Generally, one in 20 or one in 30, but at our local Newman Center, which regularly does a Latin Mass, probably at least 1 in 10 at OF Masses and 1 in 2 at least at the Latin Mass.

(Father keeps a basket of chapel veils in the narthex. I hope somebody occasionally washes them!)

I have seen three women who wear a head covering of some sort. I have also ordered one to see if I like it.

I’ve been wearing a veil recently for when I attend Mass, both for the EF and OF.

It has surprised me that at our church, it’s late teens, and early 20-somethings that have been bringing back the practice on their own accord.

I think it’s a beautiful thing to practice modesty, especially in this day and age. I make no judgement about people that don’t want to do it or don’t see a need. As a man i try to wear more respectable clothes to Mass but i don’t look down on someone in scruffy clothes either, maybe they have a manual labour job and came straight from work, who knows.

I have chosen one that could be used as a shawl. Mostly because I have thick hair. And anything smaller would just look silly on me.

Previous parish: none
Current parish: one family and one older woman.

My protestant wife wore one for a while because she felt the pressure to put on makeup and do her hair before church was distracting her from worship.
The Catholic parish i spend most of my time at is very traditional and I’d say almost half the women there (young and old) wear a head covering.

You know, you can go not too far from where I live, and you can go and you can find most of the women there that do the head coverings, are not older ladies. They are often times, people in their teens, 20s, and 30s.

I do not.

At Mass I know of only one woman (I’d guess late 40s early 50s) that wears one. She’s the cantor and at our prior parish the cantor was up in a choir loft and you didn’t see her; so… yeah… at first I just thought it was a cantor thing. 😊

I do it at TLM, because I see it as a traditional practice in keeping with that form of the Mass.
I don’t do it other times, such as for regular OF Masses.

I see some older women doing it at older ethnic parishes, and I see women of all ages doing it if they are traditional Catholics. However, the vast majority of Catholic women I see at Mass, adoration, etc. do not veil.

We have a few, not sure of the number. In my first parish there were several women who did. One of the ladies attended daily Mass and she wore hats rather than a chapel veil. She was a tall, slender lady in her 70’s with perfect grey hair and wore the little pill box hats like Jacky Kennedy. Her hat always matched her suit. I always thought she appeared regal.

I don’t wear one. I tried once but it was distracting trying to keep it in place, so much so it took my attention away from the Mass. I think it is a beautiful custom and like that younger women are starting to bring it back.

Yes, there are a lot of older ladies who like to wear a hat to OF Mass. I see a lot more pill-box hats among the 70+ set than I do veils, although I also see quite a few 70+ ladies who are the pantsuit type and do not wear any hat.

I hope so too! Thank you! Are you considering to wear one as well?
