Has anyone here ever been to or sent a teen to Catholic Heart Workcamp? Any experiences you’d like to share?

I went to a Catholic Heart Work Camp a few years ago when I was in high school. I went to the camp in Charlotte, NC and had an awesome time. The house I happened to be fixing up was completely torn to pieces and we fixed almost everything in there! Most of the residents are very thankful and would make the volunteers snacks and drinks, however my residents were a little less thankful… Still worth it though. Each evening we would have spiritual talks or play games back at the Catholic high school we stayed all week at. One night confession was offered by local priests. Mass was offered daily and a larger Mass including the entire camp was said our last night. Overall it was a lot of fun and a good and sobering experience to see how those less fortunate than myself live. It was also very good for me at that age to understand more my Catholic faith.

Thanks for your reply – I’m just going through some angst because my 13-year-old left yesterday for one with her youth group – paint trays, brushes, rollers, masking tape, hammer and all. . . I pray her group will have a wonderful experience of service and Catholic prayer and fellowship.

I will definitely keep her and her youth group in my prayers. Don’t worry…she will have a great time and return with lots of great stories hopefully!

She’s baaaaack. . . had a wonderful time, has a renewed love of the Church and the Eucharist and an eagerness to help out . . . wanted to jump out of bed on Sunday to head for Mass (usually, there’s some hassle about what’s appropriate to wear. . . or can I sleep 15 minutes longer… or … or…but not this Sunday). Has spent a lot of time e-mailing her new found buddies since she got back. She’s already started making plans with her youth group about fund-raising so they can get a larger group to go next year. . .
