I ask you to help me in such a question, but I want to know how it was until II Vatican council!

What literature about the Holy Sacrament of Confession would you recommend me as the best literature for priest?

What literature would you recommend me as the best literature for laymen for preparation to the Holy Sacrament of Confession?

And also I’m looking for the Code of Canonic Law (1917) in English.

If you can, please, give me links or PDF-files.

You can get a mix of commentary and translation for many of the 1917 canons at
archive.org/details/newcanonlaw00woywuoft

As far as I know, there is no English translation of the whole 1917 Code of Canon Law available online. (If you find one, please let me know!)

Edward Peters translated the 1917 code into English in his The 1917 Pio Benedictine Code of Canon Law, available through Ignatius Press. If you cannot afford to purchase this book, it appears to be widely available at academic libraries. I’m not sure whether a public library could get it for you through interlibrary loan.

I ordered the book for myself about an hour ago. If you end up restricted to just the online commentary and want to double-check a canon or two, send me an email, and I’ll check whether what you are reading matches Dr. Peters’ translation.
 
I could have used such a book last summer. This past spring I completed a two-year Lay Ministry training program. Last summer we were assigned to read Vatican II. It was not as difficult as I though it would be - especially since a classmate directed me to the MP3 version on the Vatican website. The material was not too foreign to me because all have know is the post Vatican II church. I book describing life in the Church before then would have helped.
 
I am looking for Rituale Romanum pre Vatican II IN ENGLISH! Can you give me link to download?
 
I have a large volume which is a manual of Confession for priests from the 1950s. It’s rare because it’s in English. Interestingly, the chapter on the 6th & 9th commandments is in Latin.
